Welcome to The Penned Poppy, otherwise known as my personal blog. I’m here because I want to share meaningful things with you – I want to share some of the beauty that I am fortunate enough to experience, and perhaps some of the ugliness too. I want to share some humanity, some experiences, some well-reasoned thoughts on a variety of topics that might pique your interest.
You may wonder: why The Penned Poppy? Poppies are actually very meaningful to me. They evoke nostalgia, sacrifice, recognition of the gift of life, gratitude – they represent the growth of life after the ravages of death, a symbol of hope. As a Canadian and a military member, the poppy is a mark of Remembrance. But for me personally, it also marks the change from my childhood to adulthood, from immaturity to maturity. The poppy set the tone for the writer and thinker that I am today.
With respect to this blog, I am concerned with existential questions, inquiries about various kinds of stories and elements of the world, poetry and art. I am further concerned with ethics and how they can be observed.
Some of my posts will be more lighthearted while others will be heavier and more provocative. My aim is to make you think about an issue differently, more deeply than you already have. I want to raise ideas, generate conversation; I wish to impress upon the world a fleeting idea of something you may not have considered in the past.
I am most passionate about intricate ideas that refuse to leave my thoughts. I hope that you are too; if you are, then you have come to the right place.
I will post weekly, perhaps more or perhaps less.
Well, I believe this is all I have to say, here. May this be the beginning of a beautiful unfurling of ideas and thoughts.
